Poem: Who Torments with Love? (translation of ¿Quién con Amor Atormenta?)

Selected Verses:

Who Torments with Love?

(translation of ¿Quién con Amor Atormenta?)

by Luis S. González-Acevedo

Who torments with love?
Who destroys the soul
with a passionate caress?
Pain doesn’t bewilder;
what bewilders produces pain…

…I sin because I kiss…

…I do wrong by surrendering.
Who am I? …

…Who torments with love?
I don’t know.
What am I? A pure sinner, a prisoner
who dominates his irrepressible emotion
and represses his indomitable passion.

Poema: El Amor Desvanece

Versos Selectos:

El Amor Desvanece

por Luis S. González-Acevedo

El amor desvanece
grita un corazón helado que
vencido prepara un funeral
para todo aquel idiota
que llorando ya no pueda amar…

…Llora amor que eterno eras
mas el destino mortal te ha hecho
llora como el hombre llora
cuando el amor se acaba
llora como el hombre llora
cuando sufre su destino sin velar…

Poem: Love of Rose & Carnation (translation of Amor de Rosa y Clavel)

Selected Verses:

Love of Rose & Carnation

(translation of Amor de Rosa y Clavel)

by Luis S. González-Acevedo

Centuries ago, in an isolated place
surrounded by jasmine walls,
a well-cultivated paradise
and beautiful garden existed in all splendor…

…Eventually, the carnation looked at the rose
and the rose at the carnation.
The rose for the carnation: the most beautiful
The carnation for the rose: a beautiful being…

…But one day, the rose saw a tulip
and immediately gave him her heart.
The carnation was stored in her forgetfulness
because of fleeting passions –without reason…

…The sun launched its rays, assisting in his death.
Every petal in bloom dehydrated.
What was the carnation’s fortune?
Being bathed by the sun as he cried and withered.
