Essence

(translation/version of Esencia)

by Luis S. González-Acevedo

Love suffers nothing,
minds leaving nothing.
Its essence nurtures
without feeling burdened.

Without thinking twice,
love obeys its instinct
to extract another love
from a mental labyrinth,

a labyrinth that suffers
to keep you with me,
a maze that burns like sulfur
because the day hasn’t come …

… Labyrinths that increase
and disappear simultaneously…
Thoughts that tempt
what apparently cannot be abandoned…

This is my last song
of lament for love.
I detest such a system.
It brings only grief to my door …
