Poem for Philosophy
(translation|modification of Poema a la Filosofía)
by Luis S. González-Acevedo
It’s the mother of all science.
Its womb is knowledge.
It makes people skillful
or destines them to perish.
At times, it comes from God;
yet sometimes, I don’t know.
If it’s from God,
then it doesn’t blind or lead to misfortune.
It’s an angel of faith.
Philosophy marches in pursuit of intelligence:
yearning to know,
discovering wisdom
and causing pain
with its To Be or Not To Be.
