Poem… Essence

Essence

(translation|modification of Esencia)

by Luis S. González-Acevedo

Love suffers nothing,
minds leaving nothing.
Its essence nurtures
without feeling burdened.
Without thinking twice,
love obeys its instinct
to extract another love
from a mental labyrinth,
a labyrinth that suffers
to keep you with me,
a maze that burns like sulfur
because the day hasn’t come…
The day when you think
that I don’t impose or demand.
What is cast aside for love
is not a limitation.
Love leaves everything
without obligation, without pain.
No! There’s no other way
because love is one.
Labyrinths that increase
and disappear simultaneously…
Thoughts that tempt
what apparently cannot be abandoned…
This is my last song
of lament for love.
I detest such a system.
It brings only grief to my door.
I deceived myself with the flashes
of a certain type of love.
So beautiful, yet inexistent…
The type that makes sorrows grow.
