(translation|modification of Poema a la Filosofía)
by Luis S. González-Acevedo
It’s the mother of all science.
Its womb is knowledge.
It makes people skillful
or destines them to perish.
At times, it comes from God;
yet sometimes, I don’t know.
If it’s from God,
then it doesn’t blind or lead to misfortune.
It’s an angel of faith.
Philosophy marches in pursuit of intelligence:
yearning to know,
discovering wisdom
and causing pain
with its To Be or Not To Be.

Thank you to those who have supported my poetic activity. For a while, I’ve been sharing selections (incomplete) of the poems in my English-language poetry book Caribbean Poet. The shared verses are only samples of the poems in the book. My work with Caribbean Poet has concluded and the only thing that’s left is to let you know that you can continue to support the poet by buying his book at Amazon.com. Again, thank you. –Luis S. González-Acevedo

Selected Verses:
(translation/version of Razón de Amor)
by Luis S. González-Acevedo
A century of my life,
I shall give you.
Whatever your soul requests…
Should you want more years of my existence,
I’ll surrender them as gifts.
Every year is a poem
of deeds and love.
Every verse is a song
about you.
I search for love’s origin
in philosophy.
“Tedious,” they may say,
“Too wordy.”
I’ll clarify my love.
Be patient with my method …
