a poem | my childhood island fades

I dedicate this poem to those who have left their homeland

My Childhood Island Fades

Palm trees fade away…
Royal branches swaying disappear
as my youthful Caribbean fear
increases –anguish that a growing distance won’t allay.
Heart of Mine wish upon a star for me to stay
or in the future runaway back to my island’s shores.
Over sands, I’ll wade among its waves once more:
Seduced by seafoam’s wet caress
and kissed by the Atlantic’s breath
with winds that bind my ever-present soul ashore.

My Childhood Island Fades is featured in Réquiem, by Luis S. González-Acevedo

The poem is also featured in Caribbean Poet, by Luis S. González-Acevedo

Thank you to those who have supported my poetic activity. For a while, I’ve been sharing selections (incomplete) of the poems in my English-language poetry book Caribbean Poet. The shared verses are only samples of the poems in the book. My work with Caribbean Poet has concluded and the only thing that’s left is to let you know that you can continue to support the poet by buying his book at Amazon.com. Again, thank you.  –Luis S. Áxel Vivar is an average human,
an extraordinary person.

He was born in the past,
and will die in the future.
What will happen in between?

Áxel left his island paradise,
searching for the secrets of time.
Will he find them?
Will time let him?

Do geographical locations reveal time’s secrets?
What do cities, sites, and spaces tell us about time?

Can time’s birth-death boundaries be broken?
Can true love help him?
How?

Will Áxel return triumphant to his Caribbean home?

–a story of time & eternity, mortality & immortality, romance & love–

–a tale for mortals–

Author’s word… a future of dreams is experimental writing & storytelling. It’s a humble attempt at art –word art, an attempt that defies the accepted mechanics of storytelling. I gave little consideration to the rules & canons of writing encouraged by the contemporary, literary scene. I hope to be different in a sea of orchestrated sameness. So, I write as I think and speak –and this will have to do. Thank you for your patronage!
