Poem… u.s. president 45’s racist math

u.s. president 45’s racist math

–september 17, 2018–
columbus, ohio, usa

by Luis S. González-Acevedo

“3000 people did not die,”
tweets mr. Racist Bigot.
this monster’s hatred is so sly
entrenched in evil, he pivots.

only “6 to 18 deaths”
3000 deaths??? no way!!!
tweets 45 out of 45
not #1 out of 45
but dead last out of 45:
the devil’s friendship, he won’t betray.

how many puerto ricans make one human?
consider president 45’s racist math:
“166.6” –tweets the liar, his lie as gargantuan as lake huron
(a party enjoys his waters & jet skis on his water paths)

“when 498,000 puerto ricans have died,
only then 3000 humans have passed.” –u.s. president 45

let’s see if the Fool is as arrogant when he’s tried!

u.s. president 45’s racist math will appear in a future book of poems and stories (release date | July 2020)–

Poem… the caravan

i stand with the caravan…

the caravan

–december 1, 2018–

springfield, ohio, usa

by Luis S. González-Acevedo

the caravan is humanity
each migrant = a person
each person = a reflection of God’s divinity.

how quickly history is forgotten
untaught, conveniently ignored
delusions of self-grandeur misbegotten
a willed ignorance without reward.

the caravan was not born in 2018
Guatemala, Honduras, El Salvador…
these poor victims are guilty of nothing
because the caravan was born on foreign shores.

migrations forced by corporations
and the selfish, imperial interventions
of a so-called developed nation.
hopefully, you remember now…

the political bill has reached the table
Lady Justice has served it: time to pay the debt
the history itemized is not a fable:
facts the God you say you serve will not forget.

just in case you need it…
…but Jesus said, “Let the little children come to me, and do not stop them; for it is to such as these that the kingdom of heaven belongs.” NRSV, Matthew 19:14

the caravan will appear in a future book of poems and stories (release date | July 2020)–

Poem… Citizen, Where Are You?

Citizen, Where Are You?

(translation|modification of ¿Dónde estás Ciudadano, Ciudadana?)

by Luis S. González-Acevedo

Sad is the destiny
of a colonized people,
its soul torn
and ways violated!

Without rights and without voice,
serving like slaves;
without citizens who would dare
–with deeds and not mere words–
to reveal their intentions
and willingness to answer…

By becoming the answer
to the age-old question:
As concerns Puerto Rico,
who will set it free?

Liberty is a right,
a universal foundation,
something that Puerto Rico
has never truly enjoyed.

Political slavery is a cause of sorrows,
brutal and binding
Puerto Rico with self-doubting chains.
National Injustice!

Pedro Albizu Campos and Blanca Canales: patriots of renown.
In a delirious search for freedom,
their spirits call each of us by name
and proclaim: “We’ve come to share our courage!”

Poem… Colonial Century

Colonial Century

(translation|modification of Centenario Colonial)

by Luis S. González-Acevedo

We “celebrate” the colonial century
under American rule.
“They bring peace,” Don Mario says ironically.
If they bring peace, why are they armed?

Colonizers proclaimed “liberty”
and “offered” the most precious gifts.
Today, we suffer violence and vanity.
If they bring peace, why are they armed?

What happened to the jíbaros of yesteryear?
They were battered by the northwest’s colonizing winter.
The question all jíbaros & jíbaras should consider:
If they bring peace, why are they armed?

Poem | Poema… only you | sólo tú

only you | sólo tú

for president #45

–september 28, 2017–

by Luis S. González-Acevedo

only you can turn POTUS into something else
because hatred, fear and nothingness are your grand estates
with elfish hands
you managed to turn POTUS into pendejo of the united states.

sólo tú puedes tornar a PDLEU en otra cosa
porque tu odio, miedo y cobardía te han consumido
con manos diminutas y palabrería babosa
tornaste a PDLEU en pendejo
de los estados unidos.

only you | sólo tú will appear in a future book of poems (release date | July 2020)–

only you | sólo tú será publicado en un poemario para julio 2020–
