Love’s Reason
(translation|modification of Razón de Amor)
by Luis S. González-Acevedo
A century of my life,
I shall give you.
Whatever your soul requests…
Should you want more years of my existence,
I’ll surrender them as gifts.
Every year is a poem
of deeds and love.
Every verse is a song
about you.
I search for love’s origin
in philosophy.
“Tedious,” they may say,
“Too wordy.”
I’ll clarify my love.
Be patient with my method.
For you, for me, for us
will be this bonding wisdom.
We shall ascend together countless steps
in pursuit of loving knowledge.
Without deceit,
honest wisdom shall manifest one day.
